ABOUT US

The Strathcona Artisan Market was birthed out of a simple idea and mandate: empowering local artists to be self-sustaining entrepreneurs. We are a group of local residents who believe in our neighbourhood and are passionate about providing opportunities for artists facing barriers. Our vision is to equip talented individuals to use their art as a primary or supplemental income source.

Steve Kim

Steve is a resident of the Downtown Eastside and an avid photographer. He also has an eye for design and colours, and has helped build this website, shoot the headshots, and design promotional material. He is a firm believer that socioeonomic and cultural diversity is integral to cities and sees the Strathcona Artisan Market as a tangible expression of that in Vancouver.

Jamie and his family have called the Downtown Eastside home for 17 years. In addition to being a pastor in the neighbourhood, he is passionate about empowering his friends and neighbours to turn their skills and capacities into thriving small businesses. At the end of a long day, he loves to unwind by reading books to his seven year old.

Ricki Chen

With her strategic and innovative mind, Ricki hopes to help create economic opportunities that bring out the best of each individual. Ricki gets excited when she gets to try food from different cultures and has a particular soft spot when it comes to childhood food stories.

Wendy Au Yeung

A maker at heart, Wendy delights in using her hands to create beautiful, functional and delicious things - be it kneading sourdough, sewing a dress or hand-lettering. She loves and celebrates the diversity of the Downtown Eastside by empowering artisans from different cultural backgrounds to share their stories through art and food.

She also runs an aspiring social enterprise, Happy Woman Kitchen, with the hope of empowering women in the neighbourhood to earn supplemental income via their cooking skills.

Jocelyn Wilson

Jocelyn has a passion for new creative pursuits. She has a habit of learning a new creative medium, being addicted to it for 6 months, and moving on to yet another new medium. She also likes her work as an advertising executive but is happiest eating snacks and sleeping. She feels blessed to be able to spread the joy and hope she has received through empowering artists of the DTES.

Greta is a proud resident of the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood. During her year studying in UBC, she discovered her love in working with people on the margins. Since then, she has been searching for creative ways to combine her Marketing degree and her passion. The Strathcona Artisan Market is a product of love, passion, and friendship. She couldn't have asked for a better opportunity!
